Canon Pixma MX922

If you read my post about the other Canon printer I just bought to replace my broken Epson  Then you'll know I was still looking for a decent yet affordable printer for home use, but since I do print a lot of stuff out I didn't want one strictly labeled "Home Use" because most of those are basic printers just for light usage.  So from a recommendation of a family member, I stuck with Canon - Don't get me wrong I love the Brand, I own 2 of their DSLR Cameras and love them, and it's really the only camera brand I want to own. But onto this printer, I was told it doesn't drink ink like most (and my biggest con on the previous Canon) which is one of the main items on my list, another was takes more than 1 ink cartridges, Yes people think it's cheaper having just 2 inks, One Black, and One color. Which when you look at it over all yes it is cheaper The previous Canon 2 inks Cost was roughly $35 however, with the color you'll actually be spending more on your ink, than I would with any other printer that takes single cartridges, because on your ink cartridge it will tell you it's out of ink when only 1 of the 3 colors are gone, for an example you use a lot of yellow ink, well your 3 -n-1 color ink cartridge is going to tell you it is empty when all the yellow is gone even if the Cyan and Magenta are still 100% full, and it will not allow you to print because the tank is registering empty!

Where with a printer that only has single cartridges for each color, you'd only replace that yellow and go on with your printing. I was really wanting one like my previous Epson  But I have came to the sad realization, that just isn't going to happen, unless of course I wanted to spend about what I paid for it brand new (10 years ago) on E bay for a used one, which isn't going to happen. So I continued to look for a printer that took single cartridges of ink, and was hoping for 6 inks like the Epson - Five color and one black. But couldn't find that either. So I got The Canon Pixma MX922 per the recommendation of my family member

It is rather big and bulky, not too heavy though but it is an All In one including a fax machine, so it's hard to find one with a fax that is not big and bulky. Granted I had no use for a fax, but to get all the points I wanted in a printer, I had to get one with a fax. I may look into a Magic Jack to hook to my computer or something, and use the Fax feature. But for now it'll go unused just like it did on my Epson.  The LCD screen is not a touch screen but that is okay, it is a lot bigger than the other Canon, it's in the front and has a back light all points that already make it better than the previous Canoon. The "Dashboard" is simple to use, it has arrow keys to the right of the LCD screen to use to make changes, add your network Key etc. on the left is where you'd choose Copy, Scan , or Fax .

Another point I was looking for in a new printer is I needed it to have 2 paper trays one for Normal paper and large photo paper and one for the 4x6 paper , I had this on my Epson and loved it, The previous Canon did not have this, and it had no actual paper tray like this, it had a tray you put your paper on but you couldn't close it up with paper in it, On The Canon MX922 the trays slide in after you put your paper in and you can close the door/hatch with paper installed. I needed this due to owning cats who love to jump on my printer and sleep on, walk all over it etc. leaving the tray and door open all the time would mean it would get broken from them.

Another feature it has that I sort of fell in love with, is the automatic door open - not sure what to call it, but since I keep mine closed (due to the cats) I often forget to reopen before I start printing, No more worries, because it will automatically open the door when the print job is started! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

This printer also prints out on to a CD/DVD my Epson did this as well, but I never used that feature. on the Epson the CD/DVD tray was built in to an area where the paper feeds out when printing, you'd push a button and it would drop down and out so you could put your CD/DVD on it and then it would go back up in to print onto it. With this Canon there is a tray located under the bottom of the photo tray that you pop off, put your CD/DVD on it, then open a slot in the top area (near the ink) and line the arrows up that are on the right side and then continue on to print out onto the CD/DVD. I've seen it done on You-Tube and it did a beautiful job, Just remember you have to buy CD's & DVD's Specifically made to be printed on. It will state they're printable or something similar on the packaging.

I've not printed a lot out yet, as I just got it a couple days ago (It was an Early birthday present to me from my boyfriend I got it on The 8th My birthday is not until the 17th But I have been playing with it nonetheless :)

When I print out just basic text documents like coupons, recipes, things like this I'm just using a 20 pound multipurpose copy paper that I get at Walmart - the Brand is Georgia Pacific , it is what I have on hand, and it is a bit light weight for what I print out it's more for black and white text and single sided, but nothing at this point that I am printing out is for anything fancy, but I do plan on picking up some heavier weight paper for when I do need it. But that'll be later in the future, I wasn't going to run out and get it, when I have a full ream I just opened of the 20 pound, and it suits my needs just fine for the time being. Here are a couple pictures of the coupons I printed out last night - they're taken with the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 - basic lens that came with it, on Auto (nothing fancy just wanted to snap a couple pictures of what I printed out)

Here are some coupons I printed out last night

I've  printed out one picture so far and it has done a decent job, It was a photo I edited previously before printing it out. But it still printed out nicely, I plan on printing more out to compare them to my Epson because the pictures that one printed out were top of the line! But this was just for a quick test to see how it worked.

The Original picture is the bottom one, the top one is the printed out version then scanned

Overall I am very happy thus far with this All -In- One printer it was extremely easy to set up, connected to my WiFi network with ease, even last night while my computers and Amazon Fire Stick kept dropping internet connection, the printer stayed connected to the internet the entire time.  I mentioned above this is a big bulky piece of equipment, but nothing on it feels cheaply made, even the scanner lid is heavy! My real test will be on how much it will go through ink, which I'm sure I'll find that out in a week or so , when my boyfriend needs more advertisements printed out, and I will give an update on how that works out when the time comes.

If you are looking for an inexpensive All - In- One printer, but one that doesn't look or feel cheap, that will meet your basic at home printing needs, and even a bit more when needed, as of this moment I do recommend this printer for those factors. I purchased it on March 6 2018 for $79.99 and right now it appears to have gone down a little bit it is priced at $77.50, I also did the bundle deal that was located at the bottom of the page so I got the printer Plus a 28 pack of non-OEM ink cartridges for a total of $104 I've not used the  Non-OEM ink yet of course, however after many YouTube videos on this brand of ink, I have very high hopes , as I didn't hear any bad reviews on the ink.

So if you'd like to purchase this printer for your self - you can get it on Amazon  Or on eBay

Thanks for Reading my post - Hope Y'all have a wonderful Day!
