I've had my Hoover Air Speed for a few years now , it's finally stopped working correctly , I spent a week researching vacuum cleaners, looking for the best one for my household, I love Hoover Brand, but decided this time I'd go with a brand I've never used, but have heard good things about.
So I finally settled on a Shark Navigator , It's on a black Friday Sale right now for $98 Normally It's $199 I ordered it November 19, 2020 , with a delivery date on Walmart of November 24th. I received it today November 21st.
I went with this one because it was affordable, but also because it has the Self Cleaning brush roll. I spend a lot of time removing all the hair from the brush-rolls , because not only do I shed hair left and right, but so do my 2 short haired dogs, 2 short haired cats and 1 medium haired cat. There is always pet hair every where, and the brush rolls on vacuums always get the raw end of the deal.
It took me longer to get it out of all the packaging, than it did to put it together. And no tools were needed! It just snaps together. Overall it feels very sturdy for only snapping together and no screws were needed.
Pushes easily It has a slider that you can change the amount of suction , but I just used it straight out of the box, I don't have thick pile carpets, but If you do you may have to play around with that slider to get the suction to the right area for it to easily push/pull around on your carpeting. It also has the option to shut the brush roll off (which is one of the things my Hoover had that I fell in love with) Also the handle comes off and the attachments go on it, to use it for high to reach areas, or baseboards, etc I also loved this with my Hoover and was looking for a sweeper that specifically had that and the on/off option for the brush roll. I noticed with my Hoover since the hose was part of the handle I never had a clogging issue ever! All my older vacuums I spent more time unclogging them than I actually spent on vacuuming the floors.
It comes with 3 attachments , however, one is a two in one which I thought was cool plus it's one less attachment to store and or misplace . And they store right on the vacuum, which is also very nice! Shark also has other attachments you can purchase separately if you'd want to. The three attachments that come with it are: A Crevice tool: To clean corners & tight spots, or to reach baseboards and ceilings.
Pet Multi -Tool (the 2 in 1): A single convertible tool for cleaning tough pet messes two ways; use the stiff bristle brush to clean stuck on debris, or take off the bristles to reveal an upholstery tool perfect for removing stubborn pet hair and large piles of derbies.
The brush roll is made so hair won't wrap around it, I'm not sure if it's made of silicone or some sort of hard rubber, it doesn't feel like a regular brush roll, but it does feel very sturdy, Some reviews did mention they let the vacuum run for another few seconds to a minute without motion when they were done , and according to them this helps to make sure the hair doesn't get wrapped around the brush roll. I didn't do that, and nothing got wrapped around it when I was done, But so far I've only used it in one room, so I'll see if doing it my way after a few uses still keeps the hair from wrapping around the brush roll.

To say this sweeper has impressed me is a huge understatement! I am not easily impressed ;easily amused yes, but not easily impressed :-) a lot of the reviews I've read have compared the Shark brand to the Dyson; some have gone as far as stating that the Shark is just as good if not better than the Dyson, but at a more affordable price. I'm not able to compare this to a Dyson, because I've never used one, never have owned one, and to be honest I don't think I've ever been in a house that has had the carpets vacuumed with a Dyson. I have only seen them on commercial ads, and videos on YouTube when I'm looking up reviews.
I was shocked at the amount of gunk I got off my living room floor, My Hoover has not yet fully died, it just doesn't pick up much and more and got so loud and squeaky , but I would still use it every few days even though it was just picking a little up here and there, for me that was better than nothing at all. However, after I ran this Shark Navigator over just my living room, it made it look like I've not vacuumed at all in 2 months When I just ran over it with my Hoover the morning before I got this delivered.

That is a whole lot of eww that came out of my carpet! |
Did I mention the dust cup is a breeze to take off and put back on?! See that latch? there is one on the other side as well, just unlatch both, and pull it off the base, simple as that. It has two ways to empty it - push button on the bottom like pretty much every bag-less sweeper and one at the top as well. There is also a little screen type collection vessel in the top that sometimes you'll need to wipe out derbies that it gets filled with.
My Hoover also had 2 ways to empty the dust cup, but it was so hard to get back on the sweeper, if it wasn't aligned just right it would leak air or not go on at all. The second way to open that one was unlocking the lid by twisting it and then pulling out the center part and getting any caked up hair/dust off it that way, The lid was hard to get back on and locked in the proper spot.
I've had a rule in my home since I had my very first child (of two) 23 years ago, My house is never going to have anything that is pure white, this included clothes! White and my household doesn't get along at all, it doesn't stay clean for nothing!
This is the pre-motor filter after the 1st use - I forgot to get a before picture , but it was pure white, paper white, bleach white, however you want to call it, it was bright, clean and white..
Then it came into my house .....

EEK! That is just after 1 use in 1 room! |
But on the bright side, they're washable! Also on a brighter note - here is the brush roll after that 1 use in just my living room...
|
After the 1st use in one room, so far no hair wrapped around it |
Some of the specs of the vacuum cleaner :
- Self-cleaning brushroll for powerful pet hair pickup with no hair wrap.
- Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology® and a HEPA filter trap 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum cleaner. (Based on ASTM F1977 of particles .3 microns or larger.)
- Pet Multi-Tool included for tackling stubborn pet hair on upholstery and a crevice tool for other above-floor areas.
- Features Swivel Steering for excellent control and maneuverability around furniture.
- 5-year limited warranty.
Things I really love about this vacuum so far:
Complete Seal Technology with the HEPA Filter, Having dogs, cats, and a parrot this is going to help keep the dander in the sweeper where it belongs and not being blown back around into the air as I clean like other vacuums do!
It's actually very quiet for a vacuum cleaner, I'm not sure how long the cord is but it is fairly long. Has an indicator light on the base for when the Brushroll is turned on, Solid Green means it's working correctly, Solid red means there is a jam in the brushroll area, flashing red means the motorized floor nozzle is overheating and you'll need to shut the sweeper off for at least 60 minutes before using again, also go through and make sure there are no clogs/blockages .
This is the Lift Away model which I also liked, So not only do I have extended reach with the hose because it's the sweepers handle, but If needed I can just lift the canister off the floor base to get into areas that a full size vacuum wouldn't fit (tight corners, behind desks and such.)
The Filters are washable, with just plain cool water, do not use soaps or chemicals. Allow to dry for 24 hours before reinstalling them. The pre-motor filter should be replaced every 2.5 years, and the HEPA Filter should be replaced every 3 years! And there is a 5 year warranty on the vacuum itself.
It is suggested to clean the pre-motor filters every 3 months, and rinse the HEPA Filter once a year
Also it was easier to lay the big brown box down after I cut it up, turn it upside down (open side down) and lift it up, to get the box with the vacuum out, I was trying to just lift the inner box out of the outer box and was struggling, then my boyfriend told me to lay it down and turn it upside down and lift up on the outer box , I would of eventually thought of that on my own, I swear I would have :-)
Bottom Line - Go buy this vacuum, you will not be sorry! Even not on sale it is worth $199. The $98 just made it a sweeter deal!
